Work with your Recruiter to build a relationship that will maximise your chances of finding suitable employment opportunities.

When it comes to that time when you are looking for a new job, Recruitment Agencies are often a great way to increase your chances of finding good quality employment opportunities, whilst also protecting your confidentially.

As we all know Cyprus is a VERY small place and therefore the discretion and trust provided to job-seekers by companies like CareerFinders can give people the confidence and security to look for something better, without jeopardising their current positon. 

However, in order to get the best out of your Recruiter, you as the job-seeker must try to build a relationship with them, to ensure they get to know you as best as they can and therefore represent you to the best of their ability.

Of course, the Recruiter themselves has the obligation to make sure your email/application is acknowledged and if you are a good ‘fit’ for a potential vacancy then they should be calling you within a reasonable timeframe for a more detailed conversation, but in our experience, it is those candidates that really make the effort to elevate their profiles in our minds that we tend to have more success supporting.

Also, just to give it some perspective, Recruiters however hard they try are not superheroes. As an example, when we at CareerFinders close our offices for the weekend on a Friday and return to work on a Monday we will have received several hundred emails from job seekers looking for work. Now even with the best will in the world, it would be physically impossible for us to call and speak to each and every person. 

Don’t simply send your CV without a covering email giving some background about who you are, what you are looking for and so on and then expect a prompt call back from a Recruiter offering you infinite, excellent employment opportunities. Likewise, never send an email and ‘CC’ every recruitment agency and potential employer at the same time and expect to receive calls back – it is simply not the way to impress or standout to a recruiter/employer. Instead, send a well thought-out email that really gives the reader a good idea of who you are, what you are interested in and why you feel you may be right for a particular vacancy.

Moreover, you should then follow-up your email with a call, introducing yourself over the phone and from there even request a face-to-face meeting with the Recruiter so that you can meet them in person and start building a relationship with them for the long-term. It may be that their client base doesn’t have a suitable opportunity for you at the time, but if the Recruiter gets to know you and has you in their minds, you can rest assured that the moment a relevant and exciting position arises, you will be getting a phone call to discuss the details. 

If you are a candidate that has a profile that the Recruiter feels fits well with their client-base and that Recruiter denies you the opportunity for a face-to-face meeting, move on to another company that will give you their time and energy; it is the least you deserve for putting your trust in them. 

It is clear that Recruiters cannot help everyone find work – this is just a simple fact regardless of how professional and approachable they are, but if you have the experience in an industry sector that they service and they know you well enough, they will call you and you will be given chances that other candidates won’t be.
